Sharing……

A little while back, my number # 1 fan Vera – shared part of a poem with me. It moved me enough that I asked her if I could use it here to share with you all. She said that I could. Since today wasn’t much more than an odd job, a meeting and a  whole lot of The Closer – I figured I would take this opportunity to share that poem with you, especially since my day really wasn’t worth recounting.

I did a little digging while reading the poem Vera shared, one that she got from her Mother if my memory serves me correctly – and found out it was a segment from a slightly larger poem….. and I would like to share that with you in it’s entirety…

BRING ME ALL YOUR FLOWERS NOW

I would rather have a single rose
From the garden of a friend,
Than have the choicest flowers,
When my stay on earth must end.

I would rather have the kindest words
Which may now be said to me,
Than flattered when my heart is still-
And this life has ceased to be.

I would rather have a loving smile
From the friends I know are true,
Than tears shed ’round my casket,
When this world I’ve bade adieu!

Bring me all your flowers,
Whether pink, or white, or red.
I’d rather have one blossom now
Than a truck load when I’m dead!

-R.D. RICHARDS

I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did…… Thank you Vera for sharing~~

Born in Germany as an Army brat - I moved permanently to the United States about the time I was ready to start school - Dad put to me to work when I turned 13 tearing off roofs and packing shingles.. I did that, DE tasseled corn and bucked hay all the way through high school. After graduation, moved down South for a year or so trying to figure what I wanted to do. Finally came home and joined the Air Force serving almost 5 years - which included a 3 year tour in Germany, where I met my Queen. Came home and started working as a roofer. Economy went to crap and I knew I would not be able to support my growing family the way I wanted to, so I pestered the HR department at General Electric until they hired me. A very quick almost 34 years, 4 Daughters and 9 Grandkids later - here I am .... waiting as patiently as I can, to start the next chapter of our life - romping around in the Caribbean Sea checking out the various islands that we have not been to yet. Holy $hit what a ride~!!!! ;-)

  1. Thanks for ALL the poem,,,I remember every word as I read it, but as it has been passed down, and rewritten, some of it was lost,,,thrilled to have all of it, (love what I have as it is on old paper, and in my mother’s handwriting) ,,and glad to be your number one fan,,,hope things pick up for you, think there have been bumps in that road on your beautiful island,,,but you know it will all change, and there will a smooth road probably just around the corner,,,,still enjoying my nightly visits with you, Angie, the gang at Blues and all the things going on in your neck of the woods, so keep it up,,,I am still recuperating from the pneumonia I guess, still kinda weak, just not as steady as I would like, this too shall pass,,…or not,,,,to be determined, at my age who knows,,,,but you help the days ,,nights really,,,,go by with something fun to look forward to as I read your blog, your posts and see the beautiful pictures, helping me to enjoy your island and the people,,,,keep it up,,,and the music quiz,,,which I am getting worse at by the day,,,stay well, love to Ange, and of course to you,,,keep the nightly stories coming,,,and as long as I am able,,,,I will keep enjoying them,,,,that’s all from the Harm tonight, vj

    1. Hi Vera –
So happy you enjoyed seeing the poem in full. I have it saved in my favorites and read it quite often. Not sure why but it speaks to me. Looks like our road my be finally starting to smooth out a little bit. I sure am ready for it to. Hurricane season here and we are starting to gets lots of much needed rain here – sometimes a little more than we care for – and also of course, the threat of hurricanes. Keeping out fingers crossed. Guess you noticed there was nothing from me last night — some of our weather last night knocked out our electricity and I guess the last zap we got fried our internet router. I tried to use the hotspot on my phone to get the blog written, but the signal was just not strong enough. It was late enough and I was tired enough, I didn’t feel like digging our little emergency hotspot. I did it this morning, so we have some sort of internet until we can get ours fixed ( another bump) 😉 but like you said – that to shall pass.
Sure hope you get healed up with whatever is ailing you and that you can start getting out to enjoy some of the warm weather before it starts turning off cold up there. Hopefully I’ll be able to load some pictures… but not sure. Angie says “Hi” and hopes you get well soon. Take care,
      Bill
