Krewe de Croix

Tried sleeping in a little bit this morning – but that didn’t work worth a crap….. I swear – some nights I think I have the bladder of a two year old…… but hey – what ‘cha gonna do about it ?? Got up to a beautiful sunny day and started my morning routine….. followed shortly afterward by my Queen. Soon got to be 09:30 and we headed out the door for Blues. Today was Krewe de Croix being held out at the big lot next to Eat – the restaurant out at Cane Bay. This was the annual rib cook off – so the big dogs on the island can strut their stuff. We got up to Blues and loaded DD up with tables, chairs, warming trays and everything else we thought we thought we would need for the competition and took off for Cane Bay. Eddy and Deanna were already there setting up the tent, so we unloaded and helped setting up the area.

Jim and Deb showed up a couple of hours later with their ribs…… and Lord have mercy did they have ribs. 14 racks of baby back pork ribs~!  Butter my butt and call me a biscuit ~!! They knocked these things out of the park~!!! I’m talking, falling off of the bone, smack your Momma in the mouth, wonderfully delicious ribs~! MmMmMm…… Dammit Emmit they were good~!

The competition started officially at 15:00 – and at 15:01, the Blues tent was deluged with people in line,  We went through 8 racks of ribs before we could blink real good and it was less than 55 minutes… they were completely out of ribs. It was amazing. Big crowd of folks there to sample some really fine cooking~! Everyone was finally called up for the awards presentation……. Blues was awarded 3rd place by the judges….. not what we wanted to hear, but took the award and happily accepted it……. the most important award was coming up…… Peoples Choice…… you can’t go on what 3 or 4 half drunk judges thought………. With a small fanfare — Peoples Choice was awarded……… wait for it…… Blues Backyard BBQ~! They earned it — those ribs were off the chart good~! We hung out and accepted the many, many, many congratulations. ( and I actually won a bottle of local island vodka in a raffle… yay me~!)  Finally worn down from the day and one or 12 drinks, we loaded up the truck and headed for town. Jim and Deb bought dinner for the folks who hauled everything and helped serve up the ribs. Dinner was so-so…… the company was OUTSTANDING and a good time had by all~! Tired and worn out — I gathered up my bride and headed back for some conditioned air…… as soon as I get pictures loaded — I’m headed for a much needed shower. Would have loved for each and every one of you to have been there to see that gorgeous water, feel that amazing breeze – and to taste those award winning ribs~!  You would have loved it………..

Good night Ya’ll …… Thankx for stopping in~!                                                           (Too many pix to put up on one post – so rest tomorrow)

Born in Germany as an Army brat - I moved permanently to the United States about the time I was ready to start school - Dad put to me to work when I turned 13 tearing off roofs and packing shingles.. I did that, DE tasseled corn and bucked hay all the way through high school. After graduation, moved down South for a year or so trying to figure what I wanted to do. Finally came home and joined the Air Force serving almost 5 years - which included a 3 year tour in Germany, where I met my Queen. Came home and started working as a roofer. Economy went to crap and I knew I would not be able to support my growing family the way I wanted to, so I pestered the HR department at General Electric until they hired me. A very quick almost 34 years, 4 Daughters and 9 Grandkids later - here I am .... waiting as patiently as I can, to start the next chapter of our life - romping around in the Caribbean Sea checking out the various islands that we have not been to yet. Holy $hit what a ride~!!!! ;-)
