The Gong Show~!!

After one of the better nights sleep I’ve had in a while (Yay~!) I rolled out to light sprinkles and some clouds. Kind of a bummer considering we were hoping for our classic weather for our event later that afternoon. No worries – it turned out to our regular gorgeous weather a little later — My Bride made a nice breakfast for us while I printed out a half of a tree worth of paperwork for our Fish With A Vet edition of The Gong Show celebrating the 78th anniversary of the USO – the organization famous for helping veterans. After a nice relaxing morning, we headed out to The Deep End restaurant to start setting up for our event. A little bit shaky starting out as I tried to fulfill my role as volunteer organizer. Other than thoroughly pissing off the local handy man – I think it went fairly good. We got all the decorations up, tables and slots assigned and soon the ‘show’ was under way. Had a couple of glitches (1 judge didn’t show up, a scheduled act didn’t show up, that kind of thing) but all issues resolved and the show went off pretty good. Everybody seemed to have a really good time – there was some really great prizes handed out and I think for the most part – the evening was a huge, huge success. As the Treasurer of the club – a rough look at the ‘take’ for the evening I think will confirm my suspicions. Which is really good – because ALL money earned goes to helping the veterans on the island. First place was a guy with an electric guitar doing a fairly decent rendition of Jimi Hendrix’s America the Beautiful. What the hell that had to do with the 1940’s is beyond my comprehension…. but the crowd loved it. Sadly, due to multiple roles I was filling for the evening, my picture taking came to a halt after everything got started, but I still managed some pictures so you get an idea of the event. Best costume turned out to be one of our dear friends, wearing an outfit that looked like she walked right off of the set of A League of Their Own…… Overall a very fun, nice enjoyable evening, that [thankfully] turned out way much better than I was expecting. I’m gonna call it here…. I have a mild headache and need a shower…… hopefully have the energy to get up for a dive in the morning….

Born in Germany as an Army brat - I moved permanently to the United States about the time I was ready to start school - Dad put to me to work when I turned 13 tearing off roofs and packing shingles.. I did that, DE tasseled corn and bucked hay all the way through high school. After graduation, moved down South for a year or so trying to figure what I wanted to do. Finally came home and joined the Air Force serving almost 5 years - which included a 3 year tour in Germany, where I met my Queen. Came home and started working as a roofer. Economy went to crap and I knew I would not be able to support my growing family the way I wanted to, so I pestered the HR department at General Electric until they hired me. A very quick almost 34 years, 4 Daughters and 9 Grandkids later - here I am .... waiting as patiently as I can, to start the next chapter of our life - romping around in the Caribbean Sea checking out the various islands that we have not been to yet. Holy $hit what a ride~!!!! ;-)
