Getting started……..

Welcome to  My Chalice……… more about the title after I get the hang of this.

We are very recently retired after working the last 47 years. We have 4 beautiful Daughters and 8 equally beautiful grandchildren.

Like many, we have long dreamed of living in the Caribbean. We have vacationed there multiple times and absolutely love it and everything about it. Also like many, we thought there is no way we could afford to live there. Delightfully, we discovered we were wrong.  🙂

Quite by accident – we discovered ‘long term’ vacation rentals. Fully furnished houses and condominiums that were quite affordable provided you rented them a minimum of 6 moths or longer. Still researching options, but have already found far too many options to go into at this point. So – we are in the process of selling everything we own (almost there) packing up a couple of suit cases with Summer wear and snorkel gear and heading out. Have to get the house sold first, which is the only thing keeping us here right now. (If you’re looking for a nice 3 bedroom house in a quaint historic town – please check it out at

So many things to do, but can’t get good and started until we are out of the house. I will talk about what we plan to do, what happens when plans don’t go as expected and other challenges and experiences as they happen. Once we get to the islands I will continue to talk about the island we are on and the places and people we experience while we are there.

I will gladly answer questions as time permits and look forward to sharing views and opinions – at least for now  😉

Born in Germany as an Army brat - I moved permanently to the United States about the time I was ready to start school - Dad put to me to work when I turned 13 tearing off roofs and packing shingles.. I did that, DE tasseled corn and bucked hay all the way through high school. After graduation, moved down South for a year or so trying to figure what I wanted to do. Finally came home and joined the Air Force serving almost 5 years - which included a 3 year tour in Germany, where I met my Queen. Came home and started working as a roofer. Economy went to crap and I knew I would not be able to support my growing family the way I wanted to, so I pestered the HR department at General Electric until they hired me. A very quick almost 34 years, 4 Daughters and 9 Grandkids later - here I am .... waiting as patiently as I can, to start the next chapter of our life - romping around in the Caribbean Sea checking out the various islands that we have not been to yet. Holy $hit what a ride~!!!! ;-)
